Rainer Josch Safaris

I grew up in my father's hunting camp in the northern Serengeti/Tanzania. After my education in Germany, I started organizing and guiding adventure trips and hunting safaris in South America, Europe and Africa. I returned to Tanzania in 1989 and have been guiding safaris there ever since.

From 1993  onwards until today have been conducting mountain buffalo hunts in the mountain forests of northern Tanzania. I have also developed new mountain buffalo hunts in the remote areas of North Karamoja in Uganda in collaboration with Uganda Wildlife Safaris.

Since 2024, Northern Uganda and the hunts on Mt. Gelai in Northern Tanzania have been my main hunting areas. Besides organizing and guiding hunts, I produce documentaries mainly on hunting tourism and am involved in conservation and working with local communities adjacent to the hunting areas.

Over the years, I have built up a team of employees and partners who pursue this holistic approach to hunting and nature conservation.

WE BELIEVE THAT

Hunting wild, indigenous game species anywhere in the world is a “privilege” and not a “right”. With this privilege comes the responsibility and desire to protect habitats and their species.

***

We firmly believe that in remote parts of Africa, hunting tourism is the main source of income and employment for local people living adjacent to conservation areas. Only in close cooperation with these people can the natural habitats and wildlife be protected in the long term.

***

Hunt organizers and guides must mimic natural selection to maintain a healthy and thriving wildlife population in the area.

***

Hunting in Africa - and buffalo hunting in particular - offers immense potential for adventure, as long as the hunter is truly prepared to engage himself.  Because the most intense hunting experience is always the synergy of an all-encompassing challenge and the actual hunting success.

WHAT WE DO

Our hunts are aimed at hunters for whom an intensive nature and hunting experience is the ultimate trophy and whose hunt should not be reduced to collecting a trophy.

***

We try to hunt on foot as much as possible. During our legendary mountain buffalo hunt in Tanzania, we 100% succeed in doing this. But even in Uganda we are able to travel less and less by hunting vehicle. Ultimately, it is your hunt and you decide how much of the day we spend on hunting on foot.

***

When hunting buffalo, we focus on old and single bulls or bulls from bachelor groups and leave the herds untouched.

***

We either use all the game meat in our camps or make it available to the local population.

“Our hunts are designed for those hunters for whom an intense nature and hunting experience is the ultimate trophy and not for individuals who are simply trying to collect a set of horns”
